Computed Mammography Mammography is a specialized X-ray examination that uses low-dose, high-intensity X-rays to create high-resolution, detailed images. After the breast tissue is compressed and fixed between two plastic plates, bidirectional mammography films of each breast are taken. Siemens Mammomat 300 mammography device is used in our hospital. Breast cancer is very common and the treatment of breast cancer is only possible with early diagnosis. The most effective method for early detection of breast cancer is screening mammography. The World Health Organization recommends that every woman, starting from the age of 40, have a screening mammogram once a year, even if she has no complaints. Women who have mammogram for checking should bring their previous examinations with them and allow comparison of previous films with newly taken mammograms.
When applied together with ultrasonography and physical examination, the correct diagnosis rate of mammography is over 90%. Therefore, ultrasonography should be performed simultaneously with mammography. In our hospital, ultrasonography is recommended and performed if necessary to our patients who underwent mammography.
